INSIDE WIREMAN APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM

This program is a 5-year training program approved by the Division of Apprenticeship Standards for the State of California. The program requires that each apprentice receive a minimum of 8000 hours of on-the-job training in the electrical construction industry with the supervision of a journeyman wireman electrician. During the course of the apprenticeship, each apprentice is transferred on a yearly basis to a new contractor. This allows the apprentice to receive a varied and in-depth experience of work while in the apprenticeship. The Training Center makes all placements with contractors.

While in the training program, apprentices are required to attend 1,020 hours of classroom related instruction. During the first three years of apprenticeship, apprentices go through our compressed and vigorous curriculum two nights a week – one night for lecture and one night for hands-on applications of their skills. Apprentices are required to pass various competency assessments to successfully complete their classes.

In the last two years of apprenticeship, apprentices have the choice of selecting a “career path” or specialty field. Each career path comprise of several continuing education and skill improvement classes. Typical “career path” classes consists of the following:

  • Auto-CAD
  • Advanced Motor Controls
  • Low Voltage
  • Electrical Certification Prep
  • Electronics (Analog and Digital)
  • Fire Alarm Systems
  • Instructional Leadership
  • Service Equipment
  • Test Equipment
  • Photovoltaics
  • Job/Project Management
  • Programmable Logic Controllers

Apprentices receive pay increases during the course of their apprenticeship based on the amount of work hours they have successfully completed in the program, successful school performance and maintaining a current CPR/Multimedia First Aid. Those raises are set in the following increments:
